Integrated IT Platform for Service-Based Business Models for OEMs (SBBM) - Research and Development

With this research project, Signifikant will cooperate with KTH Royal Institute of Technology to bring forward the next generation of aftermarket IT support. The research and development project is partly funded by the Swedish government institution Vinnova. The aim is to support OEMs transforming into a service-based business model through creating “google analytics” for manufacturing products.

The Royal Institute of Technology will contribute with research capability. We are very happy to receive this acknowledgment of our ideas of the future of the manufacturing industry and its aftermarket, says Mattias Löfstrand, CEO of Signifikant. The Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm is the largest and oldest technical university in Sweden. The Department of Industrial Production will provide research capability in forming the core of the solution.

– “This project is a success of our thoughts and ideas to shaping the future of the manufacturing industry”, says Amir Rashid, Ph.D., KTH Royal Institute of Technology.

The project started in the fall of 2014 and was completed in 2016.

Integrated IT platform to support OEMs in implementing Service-Based Business Model (SerBIT)

The purpose of this project was to develop and verify an IT platform to support the manufacturing industry in transition from a conventional business model (i.e., product sales), to the emerging service-based business model, where OEMs offer their products as a part of extended service. The project delivered a complete IT platform supporting medium-sized export industries to be more competitive and innovative in their service offerings, helping them to deliver their products as services.

The project involved four parties; Signifikant for the IT platform, KTH for research, PDS Vision UK for cloud support, and Gorenje for real case testing. The product development approach used was based on best practices for software development. This incorporated lean (and agile) software development with a cross-functional team of experienced developers, and adaptive planning.

The project was completed on 20th August 2019. For more details, write to us at info@signifikant.se

Resource Efficient Circular Product Service Systems (ReCiPSS)

The European Commission supports the industry in large-scale implementation of Circular Manufacturing Systems – a drive towards a stable circular economy. Two industrial large-scale demonstrators of the Automotive and the White Goods industry are involved in the project. ReCiPSS is co-funded by the European Commission’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme. The project brings together 13 partners, including Signifikant Svenska AB, from 8 countries and will be coordinated by the KTH Royal Institute of Technology, Sweden.

Innovations expected from the project:

– Business Model: Pay-per-use as a type of circular business model to investigate viability, consumer traction, and environmental impact improvement
– Technology: IoT platform monitoring customer behaviour, asset usage, and condition of assets (washing machines).

Signifikant focussed efforts on developing circular tools and ICT platforms that will allow data exchange to track usage and remote monitoring of Gorenje gospodinjski aparati d.d’s washing machines.

Material Passport: A digital platform for the manufacturing industry to implement Circular Production Systems (CEPort)

Produktion2030 is a strategic innovation programme supported by Vinnova, the Swedish Energy Agency, and Formas. The goal is to ensure that Sweden remains a competitive manufacturing nation. Along with KTH, Dometic Group AB amongst others, Signifikant will participate in a pre-study to assess the applicability of the concept of ‘material passport’ in the manufacturing industry. The project aims to lay a foundation to develop a digital platform that can enable generating material passports to facilitate the implementation of Circular Production Systems. The platform will establish a connection between different value chain actors and enable them to share product and material information throughout multiple lifecycles of products.

The project will assess the applicability of the concept of ‘material passport’ in the manufacturing industry by involving a cross-functional group represented by researchers, manufacturers, software developers, and recycling experts.

This work has received funds from the strategic innovation program Production 2030 supported by VINNOVA, Swedish Energy Agency, and Formas.

The project commenced during the summer of 2019.
